Aclamado como el Padrino del Ska, Laurel Aitken dominó la industria discográfica de Jamaica durante su infancia, disfrutando de una serie de éxitos de mento y R&B jamaicano muy populares durante la segunda mitad de la década de 1950. A principios de la década siguiente se mudó a Londres, donde, durante los años que le siguieron, grabó en cada en cada sello discográfico.
Si bien sus grabaciones constantes de skaaseguraron que Laurel siguiera siendo un firme favoritos entre los ex patriotas jamaicanos, la explosión de reggae de 1969 expuso su trabajo a un público más amplio, con producciones para Doctor Bird, Pama y Trojan Records que lo establecieron como un héroe musical para muchos de las jóvenes clases trabajadoras blancas de Gran Bretaña, especialmente aquellas que habían adoptado un estilo de moda denominado por la prensa nacional como ‘skinhead’. Este set de 5CD recopila todas sus producciónes del cantante, singles de 7 “entre 1969 y 1970, con el set que incluye grandes éxitos junto con rarezas perdidas hace mucho tiempo y temas no editados que hacen su debut en CD.
